Columbus opened up trade with the native Americans and established trading routes. he incorrectly native Americans "Indians." Columbus was trying to reach India, and he mistakenly reached North America. Magellan's crew showed that the world was not flat and that one can complete a cross world voyage in a specific amount of time. the Spanish brought diseases with them, they brought superior weapons, equipment, and animals. the Aztec were stupid to believe that a god had come, and the Spanish used that to their advantage. Spanish colonization was unique because the Spanish married with the natives over their producing mestizos, and other new races. the consequence of abandoning the encomienda system was that there was different social cl, unrest, and decrease in power.
