Can mobile phone viruses be detected with anti-virus software designed for computers?

I just got a new Samsung Blackjack II, and am in the process of adding videos, music, and games. I've heard of viruses that attack cell phones, and it has me concerned. Everything I intend to put on my phone, I run through multiple virus scans using the anti-virus software on my pc. But will these scans pick up on viruses that target cell phones? I found some anti-virus software for smart phones, but at the moment I don't have the $30+ to shell out for it. Oh, and I don't plan on going online with my Blackjack, so that isn't a problem. All my downloads will be done with the USB. Can someone please help?
