Should I contact my ex of 2 years?

Two years ago we dated for like 4 months. then over Christmas break he didn't call me once and barely texted me. We had a lot of trouble communicating but there was something about him that really intrigued me and I liked him and he was like infatuated with me. I broke up with him because of the communication issues and just feeling anxious about the relationship in general. It hurt him real bad. I think I ****** up a bit in dealing with the whole thing. I apologizd to him and have tried to contact him a couple times like a year ago but he only responded with like one word answers, which was typical of him. Anyways, I kinda miss him still and am wondering what I should do. In the past it's almost always been me initiating, so that is why I am hesitant to do it.
